PPG Industries Shipping/Logistics Manager in Fresno, California
Manages/supervises the safety, planning, scheduling, traffic, shipping, finished stock inventory management, reporting, and follow-up of all logistical activities. Accountable for world-class delivery performance to customers, monitors production, shipping, inventory management and related data to achieve this objective. Responsible for long-range planning and short-term projections.
Manages safety focus for the shipping department. Schedules shipping department manpower to ensure optimum efficiency. Coordinates with PPG traffic personnel and common carriers to achieve world-class delivery performance and to attain best freight rates. Coordinates and measures all aspects of inventory health and turnover rates.
Duties and Responsibilities 1. Plans, directs and coordinates the activities of the shipping department in an organized and safe work environment. 2. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites work flow. 3. Coordinates the load out schedule with in-house shipping personnel and outside contractors to ensure timely and accurate load out of product. 4. Ensures all transactions are recorded timely and accurately, to reflect correct inventory position at any time. This includes shipments, product loss and damages. 5. Selects, hires, trains and evaluates employee performance. Addresses performance issues and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Works with direct report(s) to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff. 6. Ensures full compliance with all quality standards, good housekeeping and adherence to all safety rules/policies/regulations. 7. Contains and/or reduces costs and drive productivity within the department.
Four-year degree and at least 5 years’ experience managing a shipping/logistics operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires intermediate level computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Access); knowledge of safety practices/rules/policies in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
Excellent communication skills; the ability to perform job duties within time constraints
