Position Purpose & Summary:

Cargill has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Supervisor in Fresno, CA. The candidate will be responsible for leading a high performing maintenance team and ensuring a high level of equipment reliability through continuous improvement of processes and strategies. This position will provide leadership of craftspersons and supplementary outside resources performing maintenance work. The candidate will be part of the maintenance management team and will be responsible for ensuring that all work is performed safely and effectively.

Principal Accountabilities:

30% Leadership – Lead the team by providing ongoing coaching and team development. Facilitate relationships with other departments to ensure asset health and availability for production. Be present on the plant floor to lead problem-solving efforts and assist as necessary. Hold team members accountable with timely feedback and ensure proper recognition of top performers. Coach maintenance team in operations, troubleshooting, repair, preventative and predictive maintenance procedures, root cause failure analysis, personal safety, food safety and operational excellence. Review area training and crewing needs and ensure that employee training and development provides sufficient craft skills and knowledge.

20% Equipment – Manage plant mechanical and electromechanical equpment efforts including maintenance needs, improvement projects as well as supervision of outside contractors.

20% Work Management – Ensure work management process is implemented and effective. Investigate opportunities in a timely fashion and implement corrective actions when needed. Provide effective communication to operations and maintenance management relating to equipment operation. Ensure correct follow-up and equipment unscheduled downtime is reduced to a minimum by effective repairs. Ensure normal and emergency coverage is provided in all areas. Identify and manage needed outside resources to assist in repairs.

15% Food Safety and Personal Safety – Maintain total awareness of and compliance to all Safety regulatory legislation and Cargill policy and procedures, including contractor safety programs. Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations as they relate to maintenance activities.

10% Asset Health & Coordination – Monitor asset health of critical assets. Advise in collaboration with operations the necessary modifications and equipment repairs in their area. Oversee emergency repairs, incident investigattions, and analyze asset defects and failures to find and address the root cause to prevent re-occurrence.

5% Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor´s degree in engineering/related technical discipline, or equivalent experience OR 5 years of experience in the maintenance field, preferable Beef.

  • Strong background in boilers, refrigeration, and other highly hazardous processes

  • Serve on emergency response team (successfully pass a respirator test)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of IIAR and ASHRAE requirements

  • Working knowledge of ladder logic and P&IDs

  • Experience in plant maintenance/engineering, including project leadership experience

  • Demonstrated leadership skills of team building, conflict resolution, innovation and change within the work force.

  • Ability to develop and manage good working relationships with internal departments, contractors, suppliers, inspectors and customers

  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Comfort learning new technologies.

  • Ability to make independent decisions

  • Ability to challenge and engage a team

  • Ability to work in a variety of business environments including office (approx 30%) and plant floor (approx 70%) in both hot and cold settings. Significant amount of time spent standing, walking, bending, etc.

  • Computer/phone usage on regular basis

  • Travel occasionally (ie less than 10%)

  • Ability to work a variety of hours to cover multiple shifts. Occasional weekend work. Ability to be on call

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training and knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies

  • Working knowledge of Maximo or CMMS system.
