The Program

The California High-Speed Rail program is the first ever high-speed rail system in the U.S. It will connect the mega-regions of the state, contribute to economic development and a cleaner environment, create jobs and preserve agricultural and protected lands. By 2029, the system will run from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours at speeds of more than 200 miles per hour. The system will also extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations.

The Role

We have an immediate opportunity in our Fresno, CA Program Office for a full-time Environmental Compliance Inspector to perform environmental due diligence on CA High Speed Train construction projects.The candidate would assist the Regional Environmental Compliance team by establishing current baseline environmental conditions within the preconstruction, portions of the High Speed Train alignment and inspecting and surveying active construction areas. Would inspect and document field protective measures for sensitive biological resources, water quality protections, hazardous waste and hazardous condition situations, and report and suggest areas of improvement, whereapplicable.

The individual should have working knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act or National Environmental Policy Act and of water quality best management practices. A background in either natural or environmental sciences is a plus, as the individual will be field assessing the efficacy of best management practices and protective measures implemented by construction teams in regards to natural and environmental resources.

Job Requirements

We are seeking a professional, dedicated, enthusiastic addition to a collaborative office environment with the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, or geology-related science

  • 1-5 years of experience performing environmental fieldwork preferred

  • Knowledge in assessing various environmental best management practices in California construction projects

  • Excellent organizational and time management and multi-tasking skills required

  • Personable and able to communicate with people at all levels

  • Willingness to travel as necessary

  • Must be a self-starter, resourceful, and have the ability to work productively on multiple projects at a time under strict deadlines with guidance from senior staff

  • California State regulatory knowledge is a plus

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat,
